Crossroads Shooting Sports proudly announces the first ever seminar 100% dedicated to families with firearms. Whether you are

• a parent who carries daily for self defense and wants to know how to do so safely with a little one in tow,
• a grandparent with a gun who wants to make sure you’re storing your firearms safely when the grandkids visit, or
• a couple looking to start a family who is also interested in gun ownership,

this two-day seminar is for you!

We’ve partnered with some of the top firearms instructors in the country. Our featured trainers specialize in firearms and self-defense training, and they are also mothers and fathers who have (or are) successfully raising little ones, safely, in homes with guns.

Topics in this seminar include:

• Securing your home
• Less-than-lethal defensive options and how to safely use them around children
• Family games to help children and parents grow in personal awareness and joyful alertness
• What – and when! – to teach your children about the firearms in your home
• Tools to help children learn to resist gun-related peer pressure
• How to safely babywear and carry a firearm
• Choosing a safe holster
• Tactical Communication For Couples
• Practical concealed carry solutions for the busy parent
• And much more…

We will have live-fire instruction starting with a practical introduction to handguns, moving through the basic draw stroke, and ending in one-handed manipulations that include techniques for shepherding family members to safety in the event a firearm is needed.

There will also be live training in safely moving through your home with a firearm, with the option of scenario-based instruction in a state-of-the-art computer-operated simulation room.

No experience is necessary. No children required. No children under the age of 18 will be allowed in the range at any time.

This seminar is to be held in Johnston, Iowa, at Crossroads Shooting Sports, on May 30 and 31st from 8:30am-5:30pm each day.

Instructors

Kathy Jackson

Author of the book The Cornered Cat and the website http://www.CorneredCat.com, Kathy is an experienced defensive handgun trainer who successfully raised five very active, homeschooled boys to young adulthood. She spent four years as the editor of Concealed Carry Magazine, stepping down in 2012 to focus on her own firearms education and training company. A staff instructor at the Firearms Academy of Seattle since 2003, Kathy also holds teaching certificates from the Massad Ayoob Group and Rangemaster. Under her own Cornered Cat banner, she now travels across the nation teaching good people how to live safe, happy, armed lifestyles and protect the people they love.

Dann Sternsher

Dann Sternsher is a NRA Appointed Training Counselor and Certified Instructor for all disciplines, Chief Range Safety Officer, and Refuse To Be A Victim Regional Training Counselor. He has also trained over 1,000 kids in firearm safety and use as an Ohio 4H Shooting Sports Certified Instructor for Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. He is a father of one and currently a full-time university professor and instructor/consultant for G4 Personal Safety. With previous experience in law enforcement, Dann has over 20 years of experience carrying a concealed firearm.

Chuck Haggard

Chuck Haggard is a 30-year veteran of urban law enforcement and a father of two. He is certified as a civilian and law enforcement trainer on various weapon systems, including pistol, shotgun, rifle, carbine, oleoresin capsicum (O.C.), baton, and Taser. He is also skilled and experienced at teaching weapon retention, disarming, and other empty-hand techniques. He enjoys teaching and is proud to be able to contribute to this nation’s widespread community of responsible, law-abiding advocates of self-defense. He remains active in the law enforcement community, but he now devotes even more time to training private citizens on the art and science of personal defense.

Melody Lauer

Melody Lauer is a Rangemaster and NRA certified handgun instructor who is also certified in Home Firearms Safety and the NRA’s Refuse To Be A Victim program. A mother of three whose oldest child is six years old, Melody is an experienced babywearer. Active in the self-defense community, Melody has carried a defensive firearm for nine years. She authors a self-defense blog and continues to train in a variety of self-defense methods. She is a strong advocate for safe handling and storage of firearms around children and enjoys sharing her experience with others.

John Lauer

John Lauer has been a communications specialist since 1999 and concealed carrier since 2004. John is a NRA Certified Instructor and Training Counselor in Basic Pistol and is an Assistant Instructor with Shaw Martial Arts / Modern Combatives and a father of three.

Scott Strait

Scott has enjoyed the shooting sports for many years. He is NRA certified in Basic Pistol, Personal Protection Inside/Outside the Home, Refuse to Be a Victim, and is also a Range Safety Officer.  He also teaches the Utah Concealed Firearms Permit class and holds a 1^st Kyu Brown Belt in Judo.  Scott has enjoyed shooting all over the world during his 21 years in the United States Air Force.
